ABCs of Salvation

ABC's of Salvation

Parents,

The ABC's of Salvation is an approach for you as a parent to use to share the plan of salvation with your child in a way for them to understand.

If you need assistance after sharing with your child, please feel free to contact us. Kid's Evangelism Explosion has an animated presentation of the plan of salvation on their website, www.kidsee.org/gospel/index. It would be helpful for you and your child to watch it together so you can answer questions and talk to him or her about it. The following is a narrative for your use to explain the ABC's of Salvation to your child. We will be praying for you!

A is for Admit

Admit that you have done wrong things called sin. Sin is any thought or action that disobeys God. God hates sin! Your sin keeps you apart from God. The bible says that everyone has sinned.

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23 (NKJV)

The Bible tells us that the punishment for sin is suffering forever and ever away from God in a placed the Bible calls hell.

"And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” Matthew 25:46 (NKJV)

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  Romans 6:23 (NKJV)

Hell is a terrible place of fire and punishment. You need to be saved from the punishment of your sin. But you cannot do anything to save yourself. Doing good will not get you to heaven.

B is for Believe

Jesus, God's Son, made a way for you to be saved. God made a way for your sins to be forgiven so you can be saved from the punishment of your sin.

"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8 (NKJV)

The Bible says you need to believe (trust) on the Lord Jesus Christ. What does it mean to believe? Believing means to have faith in God.

"But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him." Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV)

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”  John 3:16 (NKJV)

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’ John 14:6 (NKJV)

Faith is from God. Faith is believing in Jesus and what He has done even though you have never seen Him. You are saved by believing in Jesus Christ as your Savior from sin.

"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works lest anyone should boast." Ephesians 2:8-9 (NKJV)

"He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him." John 3:36 (NKJV)

What should you believe? You need to believe that Jesus came to be the Savior because of your sin. As the Savior, Jesus took your place on the cross. He bled and died because of your sin. No one made Jesus die for you; He did it because He loves you. Jesus died so that you would not suffer everlasting punishment in hell. Three days later, He rose from the dead so you can live forever in heaven with Him.

"For I delivered to you first of all that which I have also received: that Christ dies for our sins according to the scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the scriptures,"    1 Corinthians 15:3-4(NKJV)

Your sins were forgiven when Jesus died on the cross for you. Jesus wants you to accept His forgiveness for your sins. When you trust Jesus as your Savior, he takes your sins away forever. When Jesus died on the cross for your sin, He made a way for you to be saved from everlasting punishment. That is why we call it being SAVED when you trust Jesus as your Savior. He gives you everlasting life in heaven with Him.

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 6:23 (NKJV)

C is for Choose

Each person must make a choice. Now it is your turn. You must choose. Have you trusted Jesus as your Savior from sin? Will you receive His forgiveness for your sins? What will you choose?

"..that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.  For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made until salvation." Romans 10:9-10 (NKJV)

"For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.'" Romans 10:13 (NKJV)

Stop and think. Be sure that you are not doing this just to please someone like your mom or dad or because you know a friend has decided to trust Jesus as Savior. You should decide because you know that you need to be saved from your sins. You want Jesus to be your Savior. (Parent Note: Please be clear. Remember God's grace through faith saves us. Your child should understand that prayer is not what saves them, they are saved by trusting Jesus as their Savior.) If you have trusted Jesus as your Savior, thank Him for saving you. You can do this by talking to Him. When you are ready, you might say something like this…

Jesus, I know that I have sinned and I ask now for your forgiveness of my sin.   I believe that You took my place on the cross where You bled and died because You love me. Thank You, Jesus, for loving me so much.  Thank you for saving me and forgiving me from my sins.  Thank You for rising again so that I can have everlasting life in heaven with You.  Thank You for Your gift of everlasting life in heaven with You. Thank You for saving me and making a place for me in heaven so I can be with You someday.
