What We Believe

What We Believe

Staying The Course Ministries accepts the Holy Scriptures as the revealed will of God, the All-sufficient rule of faith and practice, and adopts the Statement of Fundamental Truths as set forth in the Holy Bible.

The Scriptures Inspired
We believe the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, were written by men under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.  The Bible is literally God-breathed and contains no mixture of error, and is the infallible, authoritative rule of faith and conduct. The truth of Scripture and the person of Christ are the foundations of the church and the life of the believer.

Simply stated, we believe the Bible is true. We affirm the Bible’s truthfulness in the reporting of historical facts, the description of miracles, and the resurrection of the body of Jesus Christ after His crucifixion.  The Bible does not speak to everything that is true in the world; however, everything the Bible says is true.
(2 Timothy 3:15-17; I Thessalonians 2:13; 2 Peter 1:21;  Hebrews 4:12;  Psalm 19:7)

The One True God
The one true God has revealed Himself as the eternal “I AM”, the Creator of Heaven and earth and the Redeemer of mankind. He has further revealed Himself as embodying the principles of relationship and association as Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
(Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 43:10,11; Matthew 28:19; Luke 3:22)

The Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ
The Lord Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God.  The Scriptures declare:
a) His birth by the virgin Mary (Matthew 1:23; Luke 1:31,35)
b) His sinless life  (Hebrews 7:26; I Peter 2:22)
c) His miracles  (Acts 2:22; 10:38)
d) His being the perfect Lamb of God and allowing His horrible death on the cross for the washing away of my sins (I Corinthians 15:3; 2 Corinthians 5:21)
e) The resurrection of His physical body from the dead   (Matthew 28:16; Luke 24:39; I Corinthians 15:4)
f) His ascension into Heaven after His resurrection to sit again at the right hand of God (Acts 1:9,11; 2:33; Philippians 2:9-11; Hebrews 1-3)

Salvation of Man by Grace Alone
Man is saved by God’s grace through his faith and trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Man is sinful and does not have the ability to save himself, no matter how many good works he does. However, once he surrenders his heart and life to Jesus and places his faith and trust in Christ, his faith will be evidenced by good works, obedience, and the fruit of the Holy Spirit.
(Ephesians 2:8-9; Galatians 5:22-23)

Man’s only hope of redemption is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ the Son of God.
a) Conditions to Salvation:
Salvation is received through repentance toward God and faith toward the Lord Jesus Christ making man a new creation through Christ Jesus. By the washing of rebirth and renewing of the Holy Ghost, being justified by grace through faith, man becomes an heir of God according to the hope of eternal life.
 (Luke 24:47; John 3:3; Romans 10;13-15; II Corinthians 5:17; Ephesians 2:8; Titus 2:11; 3:3-7)
b) The Evidences of Salvation:
The inward evidence of salvation is the direct witness of the Spirit.
 (Romans 8:16)
The outward evidence to all men is a life of righteousness and true holiness
 (Ephesians 4:24; Titus 2:12)

The Ordinances of the Church
a) Baptism in Water:
All who repent and believe on Christ as Savior and Lord are to be baptized by immersion in water as commanded in the Scripture and shown by Jesus as an example to all. Thus they declare to the world that they have died with Christ and that they also have been raised with Him to walk in newness of Life. Baptism does not save anyone, but is a believer’s symbolic identification with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.
 (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:16; Acts 10:47; Romans 6:3-5)
b) Holy Communion:
The Lord’s Supper, consisting of the elements – bread and the fruits of the vine – is the symbol expressing our sharing the divine nature of our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Peter 1:4); always reminding us of His suffering and death (I Corinthians 11:26); a prophecy of His second coming (I Corinthians 11:26); and is urged for all believers “till He come!”
c) Baptism in the Holy Ghost
All believers are entitled to and should expect and earnestly seek the promise of the Father, the baptism in the Holy Ghost and fire, according to the command of our Lord Jesus Christ. This was the normal experience of believers in the early Christian Church. With the baptism comes the investment of power from the Father for life and service, the giving of the gifts and their uses in the work of the ministry.  (Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4, 8;  I Corinthians 12:1-31).
This experience is very different from and must be preceded by being born again   (Act 8:12-17; 10:44-46; 11:14-16; 16:7-9).
With the baptism in the Holy Ghost comes such experiences as an overflowing fullness of the Spirit  (John 7:37-39;  Acts 4:8), a deepened reverence for God (Act 2:43;  Hebrews 12:28), an intensified dedication to His work (Acts 2:42), and a more active love for Christ, for His Word and for the lost  (Mark 16:20).
d) The evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Ghost
The baptism of believers in the Holy Ghost is witnessed by the initial physical sign of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit of God gives them utterance (Acts 2:4).
The speaking in tongues in this instance is the same in essences as the gift of tongues (I Corinthians 12:4-10, 28), but different in purpose and use.

Sanctification is an act of separation or setting apart from that which is evil, and of dedication unto God.
(Romans 12:1,2; I Thessalonians 5:23; Hebrews 13:12)
The Scriptures teach a life of “holiness without which no man shall see the Lord”
 (Hebrews 12:14)
By the power of the Holy Ghost we are able to obey the command: “Be ye holy, for I am holy”
 (I Peter 1:15,16)
Sanctification in the believer is recognized by identifying with Christ in His death and resurrection, through faith focusing daily on the union between Christ and the believer, and by continuously committing every area of one’s life to the Holy Spirit.
 (Romans 6:1-11,13; 8:1,2,13; Galatians 2:20; Philippians 2:12,13; I Peter 1:5)

The Church and Its Mission
The Church is the Body of Christ, the habitation of God through the Spirit, with divine instructions for the fulfillment of her great commission by God. Each believer, born of the Spirit, is an important part of the Church, whose names are written in Heaven.
(Ephesians 1:22,23; 2:22; Hebrews 12:23)
Since God’s purpose concerning man is to seek and to save that which is lost, to be worshipped by man, and to build a body of believers in the image of His Son, the priority reason-for-being of the church is:
a) To evangelize the world
(Acts 1:8; Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15,16)
b) To be a corporate or single body in which man may worship God
(I Corinthians 12:13)
c) To be a channel of God’s purpose to build a body of saints being perfected in the image of His Son
(Ephesians 4:11-16; I Corinthians 12:28; I Corinthians 14:12)
We believe there is nothing more impactful than the grace and love of Jesus Christ. Staying The Course Ministries enthusiastically embraces the call of Christ to spread His message of love to the uttermost part of the Earth!  We believe it is our privilege and responsibility to tell everyone we can about the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
Honor God with All Your Life
We believe there is no portion of a believer’s life that is unaffected by his faith in Christ.  That means we seek to honor God in our marriage, our family, our friendships, the places we go, the items we view on television and the Internet, our activities and relationships in school and/or  business .
 (Proverbs 3:5-6; I Corinthians 10:31; Romans 12:2; Deuteronomy 6:5; Ephesians 5:18)

Impact Family Relationships
A family is a fragile thing. Divorce statistics speak to that every year. Staying The Course Ministries strives to build strong families and rebuild families that have been shattered by death, divorce or disappointment. Staying The Course Ministries has resources to strengthen marriages, provide guidance for child-rearing, and create partnerships for growing students into Christ-centered young adults.
 (Deuteronomy 6:1-2; 4-7;  I Thessalonians 4:3-5)

Heart of a Servant
Our goal is to focus our gaze on the needs of others rather than the desires of our self.

The Bible teaches that God has prepared in advance work for us to do for Him. And, as a bonus, He has also gifted us with the talent, ability, and opportunity to accomplish those tasks through His power.
 (Matthew 5:41; 7:12;  Ephesians 5:21;  Galatians 5:13b-14)

The Blessed Hope
The blessed hope of the Church is the knowledge that those who have died as true believers will be resurrected and will join those who are alive and remain on the earth and will be joined with Jesus when He comes again.
 (I Thessalonians 4:16,17; Romans 8:23; Titus 2:13; I Corinthians 15:51,52)

Access to God
Every believer, both young and old, has direct access to God through Jesus Christ. Because of Christ’s work on the cross, the believer does not require another person to pray on their behalf , but can talk to God personally, as one of His children.
 (I John 2:1; Hebrews 4:14-16)

Worship with Authenticity
Worship is the believer’s response to God’s revelation of Himself.  Because of Jesus’ atoning death and resurrection, we have direct access to the Father. Authentic worship happens when our private lives of devotion match our public testimony.  In that sense, all of life is worship.
 (Exodus 34:5-8;  Isaiah 6:1-8;  John 4:23-24;  Romans 12:1-2)

Divine Healing
Diving healing is an important part of the gospel as demonstrated by Jesus during His ministry on Earth.  Deliverance from sickness is provided for in the atonement, and is the privilege of all believers. However, we believe that above all, God is sovereign and in some situations, ultimate and complete healing is not manifested on Earth, but scripture assures us of a heavenly body comparable to Jesus’ resurrected body.
 (Isaiah 53:4-5; Matthew 8:16-17; James 5:14-16; Ephesians 1:11;  Romans 8:28;
  Colossians 2:10; Isaiah 45:4b-6; I Corinthians 15:47-49)

Invest Your Resources Wisely
We believe everything we have comes from God. Our responsibility is to make wise decisions with the time, talents and resources He has entrusted to us.  In that regard, we believe all Christians have a scriptural obligation to invest into the ministry of spreading God’s Word to the lost according to scripture.
 (II Corinthians 9:7;  Proverbs 3:9-10; Proverbs 11:24-25; Matthew 6:20-21)

The Millennial Reign of Christ
The second coming of Christ includes the rapture of the saints, which is our blessed hope, followed by the visible return of Christ with His saints to reign on the earth for one thousand years
 (Zechariah 14:5; Matthew 24:27,30; Revelation 1:7; 19:11-14; 20:1-6)

The Final Judgment
There will be a final judgment in which the wicked dead will be raised and judged according to their works. Whosoever is not found written in the Book of Life, together with the devil and his angels, the beast and the false prophet, will be condemned to everlasting punishment in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death
 (Matthew 25:46; Mark 9:43-48; Revelation 19:20; 20:11-15; 21:8)

The New Heavens and the New Earth
“We, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness”
 (2 Peter 3:13; Revelation 21, 22)
